Success of Irvington Family Development Center
The Irvington Family Development Center (IFDC) is a walk-in location in the heart of Irvington that offers an array of health and social services designed to assist residents of Irvington. The Irvington Family Development Center (IFDC) was founded in 1998 by the Northern Consortium in cooperation with Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies of Essex. IFDC’s first home was in the basement of a local church. Since that time, the center has grown and moved the a dedicated space in the heart of Irvington. IFDC has benefited from close collaborations with the Irvington Public Library, Irvington Mayor Wayne Smith, and the Irvington Public Schools. Today, IFDC is supported by a Community Advisory Board that includes representation by the community members who use its services. With funding from several private foundations, as well as the NJ Department of Children & Families, the Irvington Family Development Center supports thousands of Irvington residents every year.
