First Annual Lead Education Conference a Success

The Northern Consortium, along with Newark Mayor Cory Booker, The Newark Municipal Council, and the Department of Child and Family Wellbeing recently presented their first annual Lead Education Conference.  Entitled “Working Toward A Lead Safe Newark”, the conference was held at Seton Hall University, and sponsored in part by the Seton Hall University College of Nursing. The event featured six speakers.

Among the topics discussed were the dangers of lead poisoning, the development of strategies to reduce lead exposure, an examination of links between blood lead levels and neurodevelopment, a discussion of clinical standards for lead screening and case management, information about tenants’ legal rights concerning lead poisoning hazards, and the identification of resources and financial assistance programs for families with lead in the home.
